Tornado Warnings Issued as Storm System Moves Across State

Severe storms lifted northeast across western into central Iowa late in the afternoon into the evening of Friday, April 26, 2024. Storm chasers captured a large tornado as it crossed the road near Shelby, Iowa, early Friday evening. Videos from The Weather Channel show the tornado's path and destruction.

A drone video shot by Chicago Midwest Storm Chasers offers one of the first looks at the tornado's path and destruction. The tornado watch area was approximately 35 statute miles north and south of a line from 25 miles northwest of Storm Lake, IA, to 55 miles east of.

No injuries or deaths have been reported, but the storms caused widespread damage to homes and businesses. The National Weather Service is urging residents to be aware of the potential for more severe weather in the coming days.
