IDB Celebrates Adoption of the Convention on Biological Diversity

The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change and the National Biodiversity Authority observed the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) on May 22nd. The day, sanctioned by the United Nations, aims to raise awareness about biodiversity issues and promote conservation efforts.

This year's IDB marked the adoption of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), a landmark agreement that establishes three main goals: conservation of biological diversity, sustainable use of its components, and fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of genetic resources.

The Convention recognizes the sovereign rights of nations over their biological resources, while also emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in addressing global biodiversity challenges. By promoting awareness and encouraging collective action, IDB plays a vital role in safeguarding our planet's precious biodiversity for future generations.
